Calendar Changes

There's a lot of griping about colour coding in Google's Calendar. I finally bit the bullet and stopped waiting for it to be implemented the way I (and many others) thought it should be.
I wanted one calendar with colour options. But that's not the way it's been designed and implemented. Google Calendar wants the user to maintain several calendars, which are individually colour coded. A 5 period day becomes 5 calendars?
So, I'm running multiple colour coded calendars now. This will be interesting. My biggest stumbling block was not setting them up, but in the embedding.

*** Scrolling must be checked off as an option on Step 14***

How do I embed multiple Calendars?

Embedding multiple Google Calendars into your Google Site is as simple as following the directions below.

  1. In your Google Calendar click on the settings link.
  2. Click on the name of the Calendar that you wish to use.
  3. Under the "Embed Your Calendar" section, click on the link that says "Customize the color, size, and other options".
  4. You'll then be given the option to select which Calendars you wish to include.
  5. Select which of the various settings you want to use and select which Calendars you wish to display.
  6. Click the "Update HTML" button at the top of the page.
  7. Copy the HTML code from the box and return to your Google Site.
  8. Click on the "Edit Page" button to enter into the Page Editor.
  9. Click on the "Insert button" and select "More Gadgets" from the drop down menu.
  10. Select "Featured" from the list on the left hand side of the screen.
  11. Click on "Embed Gadget" and click on the "Add" button to add it to your site.
  12. Paste the HTML code in the box that says "Embedding Snippet".
  13. Click "Ok"
  14. Be sure to edit the "Width" and "Height" of the Gadget to reflect the options that you chose for your calendar.
  15. Click "Save" and you've just embedded multiple Google Calendars into your Google Site.

Tag Cloud

I wanted to alter the overall layout of the blog by altering the Labels widget. I found detailed instructions and source code at:

The new Tag Cloud replaces the old Label widget.

RSS - Adding 'Recent Comments' & googlesites

Google is not continuing support for googlepages. New sites will not be opened, and it's unclear how long the URLs will remain active. I'm migrating my website to googlesites- let's see if I can do this before Labour Day.

The new URL is : sites.google.com/site/mrliconti

Note to self:
RSS Feed for 'Recent Comments' on the blog is:

Polls and Highlights

Blogger.com has added poll functionality, so I decided to experiment with it. I also stumbled across text highlighting! Yeah!

Notable Quotes has moved / Lables added

I have moved the Notable Quotes. You'll find them as a "comment" to a blog entry. I also started using blogger lables, this should help with indexing the blog.

Changeover complete

Two days before the start of the second semester! As you can tell by looking at the archive dates, this blog has been dormant since the end of 2006. With a new 4U class on the way, I will begin editing this blog. The first order of business is switching over from the Beta version of blogger.com.
Welcome to the non-beta version of Blogger! The changeover allows me to use templates that allow for the 'minima stretch' template which makes large text blocks easier to read. If you were part of the first group that tried this experiment with me, then you'll notice the difference. The new blogger templates also has a collapsing archive date menu which is more functional than the old one.
A course web page is slowly taking shape. It will house documents, hand-outs and assignments. The URL is http://mr.liconti.googlepages.com, or click here.

Note: the new URL for the website is sites.google.com/site/mrliconti

I have been playing with the site feed feature, and after reading about some clever blogger.com hacks, I figured out how to have my most recent comments and most recent posts to be displayed.
